Has your pillow lost its poof? A flat pillow can lead to sleepless nights while you toss and turn trying to get comfortable, and it can make your days unpleasant as well if you end up dealing with a stiff and sore neck.

The good news is that a flat pillow doesn't have to be permanent. We've put together a list of some helpful tips for fluffing your pillow back to its soft, cloudlike state.

1. The Old-Fashioned Way

Your first course of action is to fluff the pillow by hand. Take hold of each end and quickly push them in and out, just as you would with an accordion. Other methods include punching the pillow lightly with your fists or holding it vertically and scrunching it several times.

Once the pillow has plumped up again, run your palm over it to smooth it out before putting it back in its pillowcase. Repeat the process periodically to keep the pillow from flattening again.

2. Bring the Heat

Excessive moisture or humidity sometimes causes pillows to go flat.

  • Put the pillow inside the dryer along with a tennis ball tied inside of a sock. Run the dryer for about 10 minutes (20 minutes for cotton fill), and the pillow should be nice and plump when you remove it.
  • If you prefer a more eco-friendly solution, simply place the pillow out on the balcony or patio of your Springs luxury apartment home for a couple of hours. The air will also refresh the scent.

3. Check the Sizes

Pillow inserts that are too small for the cover will generally tend to look droopy. Decorators suggest choosing an insert that is one size larger than the cover for maximum firmness.

4. Use a Pillow Protector

Dirt and oil can seep into the filling of a pillow, causing it to become matted. Pillow protectors keep these damaging elements out, and they're also helpful for anyone who suffers from allergies.
