Moms, dads and grandparents all have their special days, so why not the four-legged family members? Celebrate National Dog Day on Saturday, August 26 with one of these fun events and activities.
1. Take a Field Trip
Dogs love nothing better than spending some quality time outdoors along with their humans. Phil Hardberger Park has more than 3.5 acres of off-leash dog areas between the main and west sides. Both have separate areas for small and large dogs, while the main park has a two-story dog house for smaller dogs and the west side features agility equipment. Park hours are 7:30 a.m. – sunset, seven days a week.
2. Scare Up a Good Time
Are you fascinated by things that go bump in the night? Leashed dogs are welcome on the Haunted History Walk from Sisters Grimm Ghost Tours. The 90-minute tour visits spooky sites including the Alamo, the Spanish Governor's Mansion and the Menger Hotel. Admission for humans is $15 for adults and $10 for kids. Tours depart on August 26 at 8 p.m., 8:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
3. Throw a Party
Invite your dog's BFFs to a fabulous National Dog Day party at the convenient on-site off-leash dog park at our Springs San Antonio luxury apartment communities. Have the pooches bring their favorite Frisbees, balls and other toys and let them share some tasty DIY dog treats.
4. Belly Up to the Bar
Well, keep the adult beverages for yourself, but you and Fido will both enjoy a trip to the Hangar Bar & Grill on Broadway. Dogs are welcome in the spacious outdoor seating area which also has several games such as shuffleboard, cornhole and giant Jenga. The Hangar is open 11 a.m. – 2 a.m. on Saturday with specials including $1 Mimosas and $12 bottomless brunch until 3 p.m.
5. Pamper Your Pup
Treat your pet to a relaxing spa day at Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming. The services menu includes a full selection of treatments to leave your dog's coat, skin, teeth and nails looking and feeling tip-top. Afterwards, pick up a "pupcake" or another of their delicious decorated treats.
