Best Local Breweries in San AntonioThere's never been a better time to be a beer lover. Texas is home to 201 breweries, more than double the amount in 2014, and their 1.1 million barrels produced per year ranks seventh in the United States.

Touring a brewery or visiting a brewpub or tap room is a great year-round activity that gives you insight into what makes a great beer along with an opportunity to find some new favorite brands. Check out one or more of these top breweries near our Springs San Antonio luxury apartment communities.

1. Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery

Southerleigh is a 15-barrel brewhouse that gets extra street cred for being located in the building that housed the iconic Pearl Brewery. At 7,900 square feet, it's the 10th-largest brewpub in the country. The owners salvaged as much of the original features as possible, including stainless steel kettles and cast iron stairs. Southerleigh is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week with brunch on Saturday and Sunday.

2. The Granary 'Cue & Brew
602 Avenue A, San Antonio

What goes better with craft beer than some authentic Texas barbecue? Granary's lunch board features traditional BBQ like pulled pork, ribs and sausage, while the dinner menu is seasonally driven with dishes such as smoked duck breast and brisket ramen. Pair your meal with Coffee IPA, Rye Saison and other in-house brews. Granary is open for lunch and dinner every day except Monday with a "social hour" Tuesday through Friday from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.

3. Busted Sandal Brewing Company

Busted Sandal gets its quirky name from a fateful piece of footwear that the founders literally stumbled over when the brewery was still a vague but hopeful vision. The tap room serves four year-round brews along with seasonal special release beers such as the Watermelon 201 Ale. Hours at Busted Sandal are 5 – 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 2 – 9 p.m. Saturday.

4. New Braunfels Brewing Company

New Braunfels is reputed to be the home of the first beer brewed in Texas, and the Brewing Company opened in 2010 to carry on that grand tradition. Their mission is brewing old-world German beer with "a Texan disregard for the rules." In addition to the Elemental and Saur series, NBBC occasionally brews up some experimental batches to get customer feedback. Tap room hours are 4 – 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 1 – 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

5. Craft Cruiser Brewery Tours

If one brewery is good, three are even better! Craft Cruiser offers tours of three local breweries each Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. All tours include bus transportation and souvenir, or you can choose the all-inclusive option for unlimited tastings and a meal.
