Spurs-fansThere’s never been a better time to be a basketball fan in San Antonio. After capping off last season by winning their 4th NBA title since 2003, the Spurs look to open their 2014-15 NBA season at the AT&T Center on Tuesday night against their in-state rivals, the Dallas Mavericks. Led by a mixture of budding young talent and future Hall of Famers like Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Greg Popovich, the Spurs are one of the favorites to repeat as NBA Champions, and you can literally feel the excitement and anticipation in the air.

Though the best place to watch a Spurs game is obviously down at the AT&T Center, you can bet that ticket prices will be as high as the fans’ expectations this year. But just because you can’t catch the Spurs in person, doesn’t mean you can’t watch them in style! As a matter of fact, we’ve scoured the city looking for the absolute best places to catch a Spurs game. From ice houses to sports bars, make sure you check out our list of the 5 best places to watch a Spurs game in San Antonio:

1. Fatso’s Sports Garden
1704 Bandera Rd.
San Antonio, TX 78228

If you’re looking for a place where you can cheer along with a bunch of other rowdy Spurs fans, Fatso’s Sports Garden is the spot to be. When the Spurs are playing, you can find the game on nearly every big screen TV, with plenty of cold beer and finger-lickin’ chicken wings to choose from as well. This sports bar is also a local favorite for NFL games and volleyball leagues so no matter who’s playing, you’re always surrounded by passionate fans.

2. Hooligan’s Bar & Grill
13920 N IH 35
Live Oak, TX 78233

Located less than a mile and a half from our apartments at Live Oak, Hooligan’s Bar & Grill is the most popular sports bar in the area. Have you ever seen a two-story building covered by Tim Duncan, Kawhi Leonard, and Tony Parker? If you go to one of Hooligan’s outdoor Spurs broadcasts, you can. Apart from packing the bar for all the Spurs games, they’ve also been known to give away Spurs tickets and prizes, so there’s no better place to catch a Spurs game.

3. The Friendly Spot
943 South Alamo St.
San Antonio, TX 78205

If a crowded sports bar isn’t the ideal setting you had in mind for the game, this Texas ice house might be right up your alley. Unlike a traditional sports bar, The Friendly Spot’s seating is all outdoors, with a playground for kids and pets welcome as well. And while you won’t find any HD TVs showing the game, you will find a giant, inflatable movie screen broadcasting the game for all their patrons. Beer lovers should like this spot as well, with over 250 bottled beers to choose from and 76 more on draft.

4. High Velocity
23808 Resort Parkway
San Antonio, TX 78261

Though you might not envision the JW Marriott being a great place to watch a Spurs game, take one step inside and you’ll quickly change your mind. Apart from offering some of the finest bar food you’ll find anywhere, High Velocity also features a 120-foot high-def video wall that runs along the top of the bar. That’s 26 feet longer than an NBA basketball court! If you’re looking for great food, BIG TVs, and a swanky sports atmosphere, make sure you head over to High Velocity.

5. Twin Peaks
12790 Interstate 10 West
San Antonio, TX 78230

What’s better than delicious, made-from-scratch comfort food, draft beer served at 29 degrees, and watching the Spurs on high-definition flat screen TVs? How about all of the above, but served to you by beautiful, friendly bartenders? At Twin Peaks, that’s exactly what you can expect to find. Get there early for the Spurs games though, because the place fills up quickly!
