Dogs love to roam. We know that here at Springs San Antonio, and it’s the reason we allow four-legged friends to live at our properties – we even have special pet areas where you can spend some quality time with Fido. When you really want to stretch your dog’s legs and enhance his social skills, you’ll want to head for one of San Antonio’s off-leash dog parks. Why not pack a sandwich, grab a tennis ball and head out to one of these parks next weekend?

Phil Hardberger Dog Park

No need to worry about your miniature poodle getting harassed by a Great Dane – this park has separate areas for small dogs to help protect them from larger breeds. It also features benches, a rinse area, some fun structures for dogs to climb on/in, and drinking water. User reviews are consistent in their love the many trees and shade on the property. Located at 13203 Blanco Road.

Nomahegan Park

Located at 4700 Old Pearsall Road, Nomahegan Park also provides water, nice picnic tables, waste bags for dog doo, agility equipment, grassy areas and stone paths, and the perennial favorite of dogs everywhere: fire hydrants! The park is well laid out, well maintained and provides a variety of items to help you train your pooch. Open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Tom Slick Dog Park

Located at 7400 highway 151 in San Antonio, the property’s amenities are much the same as other dog parks, though this one includes a dog shower – a great feature after rough play and rolling on the ground. There are also plenty of shady areas and a fountain (for both humans and their pets!). The park is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Comanche Lookout Park

Okay, this isn’t a dog park, but it’s dog friendly. Located at 15551 Nacogdoches, this free, four-and-a-half mile hiking trail is one you can take your pet on without a leash. Paved trails, a truly beautiful view, and a library and playground at the park’s Judson entrance make this a great activity for the whole family. The park is also wheelchair friendly.

Dogs love – and need – exercise, and they certainly love spending time with their favorite human. Next time you’re looking for a great outside activity, include your pooch and visit one of San Antonio’s dog parks!
