So you're moving into one of our Springs San Antonio communities from only a few miles away. Do you think it's easier than moving across state? In reality, the only difference is the distance being traveled.
Our Springs management teams have welcomed countless residents who have come from the local area. We're sharing some of the best tips they've discovered to take the stress out of a short distance move.1. Use It or Toss It
When you're moving a short distance, it's easy to pack on autopilot without giving any thought to whether an item is truly necessary. Carefully evaluate your wardrobe, housewares and the rest of your possessions. If you no longer want or need it, donate it to a charity or take it to a resale shop.2. Pack Logically
Are you tempted to toss everything in a box since it's not going far? Short distance moves are no excuse to overlook the basics of smart packing.
- Place heavier items at the bottom, lighter ones on top
- Use sheets, towels, pillows and other soft items as a buffer around breakables
- Label each box on the side so you can still see it when they're all stacked
- Fill one box with towels, a coffee maker, toilet paper and other essentials that you'll need to access right away
You might have the luxury of making more than one trip, but that doesn't mean you should just pack in any random order. Take care of furniture and other heavy items first, especially if you've hired a moving company that gets paid by the hour. If your moving crew consists of friends and family, it's better to get those items out of the way first when everyone is fresh.4. Enlist Babysitters and Petsitters
If you have kids, pets or both, they're bound to be more of a hindrance than a help. You've got enough to do without having to keep one eye on them. Ask a good friend or family member to take them for the day. Be sure to repay them with a dinner out, or maybe by returning the favor sometime.5. Put Wheels Under It
Use a dolly or wheeled cart to load and unload your truck. Your back and knees will thank you.
