The kids are back to school and the holidays are on the way, making it a great time to give your Springs San Antonio apartment home a thorough cleaning. The good news is that your used clothing and household goods can have a second life. Here are five local charities and businesses that welcome your donations and consignments.

Habitat Home Center
Three locations

Habitat Home Centers accept donations of gently used appliances, furniture and household goods. The home improvement shops sell these items along with building supplies to benefit Habitat for Humanity in their mission to build affordable homes for individuals and families in need. Contact a shop for pick-up of items that are too big to fit in your car.

Magdalena House

SAMMinistries operates this shop that sells new and used furniture and home accessories. Proceeds fund the organization's work to help homeless and near-homeless families gain self-sufficiency. The store accepts donations of indoor and outdoor furniture, lighting, home decor and rugs, while SAMMinistries accepts clothing, food, books and toys. 

The Children's Shelter Thrift Boutique
1407 S. St. Mary's

The Children's Shelter offers emergency and long-term housing to children who have been displaced due to neglect, abuse or abandonment. They also provide foster and adoptive family services. Proceeds from the thrift shop fund the Shelter and its programs. Donations accepted include furniture, appliances, books and toys, housewares and seasonal items.

This cleverly named store sells furniture, men's and women's clothing and home accessories on a consignment basis. In return for your items, you receive 40-50 percent of the selling price on clothing and 50 percent for furniture.
