Its name may sound more like a garden nursery, but The Twig is regularly recognized as the top book store in San Antonio. The shelves are filled with new releases and beloved classics for both adults and kids, and authors make frequent appearances for readings, discussions and book signings. Shop for hard-copy and ebooks on their convenient website. Hours are 10 a.m.–6 p.m. daily.

2. Cheever Books

Owners Bill and Monique founded the store to honor the memory of their daughter Violet, naming it after her favorite reading spot. There is a section of books for grown-ups, but The Purple Chair is mainly for toddlers to young adults. Check out their schedule of events including storytime, art lessons and day camp.
