New_Restaurants_in_San_Antonio.jpgIt's a good time to be a foodie in San Antonio! Here are some recent additions to the restaurant scene that have everyone talking.

1. WiseGuys
2895 Thousand Oaks
San Antonio
210.332.5708

You don't have to hop on a plane to enjoy classic Midwestern dishes like Chicago dogs and Italian beef sandwiches. The menu includes nine types of cheese steak sandwiches served on authentic Amoroso rolls straight from Philly. No ketchup allowed on the hot dogs or sausage sandwiches! Call ahead for carry-out orders at Thousand Oaks or their second location at 441 W. Nakoma St.

2. Bubba's 33
3136 Pat Booker Rd
Universal City
210.566.1833

If you're looking for a great place to unwind with friends over burgers and beer, how could you go wrong with a place named Bubba's? Burgers are made from fresh ground beef and the buns are baked in-house, and the three specialty burgers are made with their signature one-third bacon blend. With 60 giant HDTVs and more than 40 brands of beer, Bubba's is the perfect spot for game day. The Universal City location, less than a mile from Springs at Live Oak, is scheduled to open on August 15. Follow them on Facebook for news and updates.

3. Hopdoddy Burger Bar
17623 La Cantera Pkwy
San Antonio
210.434.2337

This sleek, modern eatery, 10 minutes away from Springs at Bandera, brings burgers into the 21st century. Their all-natural beef patties and freshly baked buns are the base for creative takes such as El Diablo, topped with pepper jack, habaneros, serranos, caramelized onions, salsa and chipotle mayo. And who says a burger has to be made from beef? Hopdoddy serves patties made from bison, turkey, sushi-grade ahi tuna and black bean-corn. Save room for one of Hopdoddy's gourmet shakes, such as caramel and sea salt or Nutella and chocolate pretzel.

4. O'liva
115 Plaza de Armas
San Antonio
210.229.2638

Farm-to-table is one of today's hottest dining trends, and O'liva brings this healthy concept to downtown San Antonio. The menu changes to take advantage of the freshest seasonal ingredients from local farmers and artisans. Recently featured dishes include herb-crusted and roasted chicken, avocado-stuffed portabella burger and the pulled pork sandwich with sauerkraut, apple slaw and apple BBQ sauce. Tastings of Texas-made Salud de Paloma olive oils in flavors like Meyer lemon and chili pepper are available any time on request.

5. The Old Main Association
2512 N Main Ave
San Antonio
210.562.3440

The whimsical, inventive menu at this Monte Vista tavern is described as San Antonio comfort food, but it almost defies categorization. Customers rave about the Concha burger, nestled on distinctive pan de huevo pastry, and carnival fried mollejas, or sweetbreads, served in a popcorn bag. Specialty cocktails such as Hotline Bling, made with tequila, lime, honey and Thai chili, have been generating as much buzz as the food.
