Celebrate At These Thanksgiving Events & Fun Runs Around Oklahoma City

Thanksgiving Events around Oklahoma CityThe holiday season is just about to begin with Thanksgiving! While celebrating at home with your family and friends is an important tradition, there also are many opportunities to get outside and enjoy Thanksgiving festivities in the community. From Turkey Trots to basketball competitions, here are some of the best local events going on in the Oklahoma City area.

1. Turkey Shoot
900 N Frederick Douglass Ave, Oklahoma City

The Turkey Shoot is an annual tradition in Oklahoma City and, this year, it will take place between 4 and 6 p.m. on November 14. Contrary to what the name suggests, participants won't be shooting actual turkeys. Instead, they will be shooting basketball free throws, and the winner of each age group will bring home a frozen turkey. The event is open to adults and children ages 6 and older, and participation is free.

2. Edmond Turkey Trot
28 E Main St, Edmond

Turkey Trots, or road races held on Thanksgiving morning, have become a tradition. Edmond's Turkey Trot takes place at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, beginning at the Community Center in downtown Edmond. There's a 5k race and also a 1-mile fun run. Registration is $26 per person with a shirt, or $20 without a shirt, and late registration is available the morning of the race.

3. OKC Turkey Tracks 5K
5th St and Harvey Ave, Oklahoma City

This is another great Thanksgiving morning race to benefit the Toys For Tots foundation. The race begins at the corner of 5th Street and Harvey Avenue at 8:30 p.m., and weaves for 5 kilometers through the downtown Oklahoma City area. Registration is $30 until November 5 and will go up in price as Thanksgiving day approaches. Make sure you also bring along a toy to donate!

4. Chickasaw Cultural Center Thanksgiving Celebration
867 Cooper Memorial Dr, Sulphur

Would you like to learn more about Native American culture and traditions? Attend the Chickasaw Cultural Center's Thanksgiving Celebration on Saturday, November 19 or Sunday, November 20. Attendees will learn how to make Native American ornaments, taste traditional cuisine and get to do some holiday shopping in the gift shop.

5. Lights on Broadway
Broadway Ave. between 4th St and 10th St, Oklahoma City

Welcome the holiday season with this festive downtown celebration held in Automobile Alley. There will be a stunning lights display, and area businesses will be open with special promotional deals, fun displays and activities for the kids. Enjoy a carriage ride and listen to some live music. The event lasts from 4 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 18. Admission is free, and all are welcome at this old-fashioned community festival.
