Fun, Free Activities Around Covington and Slidell This Summer

Enjoying the Covington and Slidell area doesn’t have to drain your wallet. You can get out of your apartment home and explore our surrounding community without spending a dime. Here are five local events and attractions to mark on your calendar:

The Covington Trailhead leads into a 31-mile paved trail that connects Covington and Slidell as well as Abita Springs, Mandeville, and Lacombe. The Trailhead Museum offers several interactive historical exhibits and a short film. It’s open Friday through Sunday, as well as Wednesday, so there are plenty of opportunities to drop in and take a little stroll back in time.

2. Columbia Street Block Party
Columbia St (200 to 500 block), Covington

The Columbia Street Block Party is a monthly event that you can enjoy on June 24, July 29, and August 26 this summer. The streets are closed from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. as the party takes over. You can browse classic cars and art galleries, enjoy live entertainment, and dance to the DJ.  

3. Covington Brewhouse Tours
226 E Lockwood St, Covington

Enjoy free brewery tours at the Covington Brewhouse every Saturday at 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. You can see what makes the brewhouse here so unique and learn about everything from its brewing methods to the way it donates all the grains used for brewing to local farms for use as fresh, local food for their livestock.

4. Sunset at the Landing
Foot of Columbia St, Covington

This free monthly concert takes place on the third Friday of the each month through October. The concert runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and refreshments to enjoy the show. Be on the lookout for information about the July show on their website.

5. Heritage Park Splash Pad
1701 Bayou Ln, Slidell

The Heritage Park Splash Pad is always free to enjoy, and a great way to beat the summer heat in Louisiana. The splash pad is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, and you also can enjoy a playground, picnic tables, and a walking path at Heritage Park. Restrooms are available on-site for your convenience.
