Indoor Activities to do in Your Winter Apartment.jpgSledding, skating and skiing are all exciting winter sports, but let's face it, you don't spend nearly as much time outdoors as you do in the summer. So what do you do to avoid a case of cabin fever?

Winter is a great time to check out all those activities you've been meaning to try, if only you had the time. Here are some of our favorite ideas to get you started.

1. Learn Something

Technology has made it easier than ever to go to school. Attend "class" on your own schedule, any time of day or night, wearing your finest flannel pajamas.

  • Whether you want to learn a new language, develop a mobile app or build your personal brand, you'll find it among the 55,000+ courses listed by Udemy. Thanks to frequent specials, you can usually enroll for as little as $10 per class.
  • If you're working toward a degree, many colleges and universities offer online programs. You might also consider a school like the University of Phoenix, which specializes in online learning and has an open admission policy that requires only a high school diploma or GED.

2. Improve Your Cooking Skills

Work on basic cooking skills, or branch out into new styles and cuisines. Thanks to YouTube, personal cooking lessons from the likes of Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver are as close as your computer, tablet or phone.

3. Start a Journal

Did you keep a diary when you were younger? Journaling is still a wonderful way to de-stress and learn more about your deepest self without fear of criticism or judgment. You might even find yourself getting bitten by the writing bug!

4. Play Games

Kids (and many adults!) already spend hours with their Playstation, XBox or Nintendo systems. Why not take a trip back to your childhood and share the joys of old-school board games with your kids? Classics such as Clue, Monopoly and Sorry are fun for all ages, and games like Scrabble and Rummikub even sneak in a little language and math learning on the side.

5. Plan a Spa Day

If you're going to be inside, you might as well spend some time pampering yourself. Go all-out with a head-to-toe spa day, or just relax with a luxurious bath, surrounded by candles and good music.

6. Build a Fort

Despite the availability of high-tech entertainment, the appeal of building a fort never seems to grow old. You supply the chairs, blankets and other supplies and let your kids supply the imagination.

7. Redecorate

No one wants to be stuck inside moving furniture on a beautiful summer day, so take advantage of the winter months to reassess the decor in your Springs luxury apartment home. Changing the furniture layout can be enough to provide a face-lift, or you can check out sites like Apartment Therapy, Wayfair and our Springs blog for new ideas and tips.
