If you’re ready to add a new four-legged member to your family, there are several adoption centers in and around Cincinnati where you can adopt a pet in need of a home. Here are three to consider:

1. SPCA Cincinnati
11900 Conrey Rd
3949 Colerain Ave

The SPCA Cincinnati takes in more than 7,300 dogs and 6,000 cats every year. By adopting from the SPCA, you can support all of their humane activities including animal cruelty investigations, spay and neuter programs, obedience training, foster care programs, and wildlife rescues. The SPCA has two locations in Cincinnati. Both are open Monday through Friday from noon to 6 p.m., on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. While you can visit several animals in the shelter, you’ll find even more online, as many are housed with foster families.

2. SAAP
PO Box 72040, Newport, KY

SAAP stands for the Stray Animal Adoption Program. A minimum donation is required for adoptions from SAAP, typically ranging from $100 to $160, but always less than $200. Adoptable pets are always microchipped, spayed or neutered, dewormed, and are up to date on vaccines and flea and tick medications. To adopt, you must submit an application before you can schedule a meet-and-greet with your potential pet. You’ll make your final decision about the adoption after the meet and greet, where applicants who want to take their new furry friend home are required to sign an adoption contract.

3. League for Animal Welfare
4193 Taylor Rd, Batavia, OH

The League for Animal Welfare operates the largest no-kill shelter and adoption center in Cincinnati. Cat adoptions are $50, dogs less than six months old are $125, and dogs more than six months old are $95. All of the shelter's adoptable pets are microchipped, spayed or neutered, and current on their vaccinations. The shelter is open from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday through Tuesday and noon to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. While you can see an exhaustive list of pets online, the shelter recommends spending 60 to 90 minutes on-site with the pet to help ensure you’ve found the right fit for your family.
