Microbreweries-in-Cincinnati.jpgIf you’re in the mood for a flavorful local beer, Cincinnati has no shortage of options. From hearty European brews, to innovative modern blends, there’s something in this city to suit any beer lover. Check out these great local microbreweries around the city.

1. Rhinegeist
1910 Elm St

Rhinegeist is a microbrewery with a great story to tell. The distinctive moniker translates to “Ghost of the Rhine,” and makes playful reference to the brewery’s home within the skeleton of an 1895 bottling plant. Rhinegeist’s philosophy calls for beers that are both hoppy and sessionable, and their beers are self-distributed so you can taste them all over the city. You can also sample the brews on-site at Rhinegeist’s 25,000-square-foot facility, which features foosball, cornhole, ping pong, and HD TVs. 2. Blank Slate Brewing Company
4233 Airport Rd, Unit C

The Blank Slate Brewing Company crafts its beers in a 3,000-square-foot warehouse that was once used to store aircraft parts. The brewery uses a seven barrel brewing system that can produce up to 1,500 barrels a year. Blank Slate aims to produce beers in styles from around the world, using wild yeast strains and barrel aging to create modern interpretations of timeless flavors. Some of the options on tap include the “Long Way Home,” an imperial chocolate India black ale, and “Shroominous,” a brown ale with shiitake mushroom. The brewery’s PourHouse tap room is open Thursday through Saturday, where you can enjoy samplers, pints, glassware, and growler fills.

3. Listermann Brewing Company
1621 Dana Ave

The Listermann Brewing Company has been crafting owner-brewed ales for five years. Beer enthusiasts who are interested in trying their hand at the craft themselves can stop into this home brew supply store to purchase from the company’s supply of malted grains, hops, yeast, and kits. The tasting room has a rotating menu of options that include beers, wines, and cider—you may find as many as 14 options depending on the day. You can also purchase annual or seasonal 4-packs of bottled local brews.

4. Moerlein Brewing Company
115 Joe Nuxhall Way

The Moerlein Brewing Company got its start in 1853 when Bavarian immigrant Christian Moerlein began crafting European beers here. Though prohibition forced the brewery to close, the brand was reintroduced to the city in 1981 and was on the leading edge of the craft beer trend. House beers include an altered pale ale, golden helles lager, winter IPA, and many more. You can stop in for upscale dining and local brews, book a private room, or get tickets for a heritage brewery tour on select weekends.
