4 Spooky Halloween Experiences to Check Out in Chicagoland

October 17, 2016

Haunted_Halloween_Chicago.jpgOctober is the season of colorful gourds and a dizzying variety of pumpkin spice treats, and it also means some spooky Halloween events to enjoy. If you’re interested in experiencing some serious scares this season, secure your spot for one of these four Halloween attractions in Chicagoland.

1. Historic Ghost Tours of Aurora
205 N Broadway, Aurora

If you’re looking for a chilling experience with real haunts, book a spot on this two-hour tour through Aurora with stops at the Riverwalk, a 150-year-old railroad roundhouse, and more. Guests receive EMF ghost meters for use during the tour to catch any unusual activity.

Tours run most weekends between April and November. Reservation are required, and tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 8 to 13.

2. Statesville Haunted Prison & City of the Dead
17250 Weber Rd, Lockport

Check in to Statesville Haunted Prison and enter a world of chaos where the guards have long since fled and the prisoners are running amok. You’ll encounter more than 100 dangerous souls as you make your way through 23 maximum-security cells. Beyond the prison, you’ll find yourself navigating the burial pit, known as the City of the Dead.

The haunted prison is open Thursdays through Sundays in October, as well as Halloween night. General admission is $30.

3. Hellsgate Haunted House
3101 Canal St, Lockport

Hellsgate is a haunted house with some interesting twists. The mysterious mansion features plenty of frights, but you’ll want to keep your eyes open as you explore. There’s a hidden key somewhere in the maze of chilling rooms and secret passageways, and if you find it before you’re scared away, your ticket is free! Another much-anticipated element is the giant slide that adds another level of exhilaration to your adventure.

The house is open Thursdays through Sundays, and Halloween Night in October. General admission is $25.

4. The Massacre Escape Room
299 Montgomery Rd, Montgomery

The Massacre Haunted House is an annual favorite, and this year the action gets more intense with the Massacre Escape Room. Locked inside, you’ll have just 60 minutes to find a way out before you become the next victim of Helter Skelter. This is an immersive alternative to traditional haunted houses, and will challenge you to use all your skills to get out.

The attraction is open Thursday through Sunday in October, but spots are limited. Reserve yours for $29.99 a person.
