Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in Bradenton SarasotaThe Hispanic community has played an invaluable role in the history and tradition of Florida. Celebrate their rich culture with these great activities during Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 through October 15.

What Is Hispanic Heritage Month?

The annual celebration began in 1968 when President Lyndon Johnson declared observance of Hispanic Heritage Week to commemorate the contributions of Americans with roots in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Twenty years later, President Ronald Reagan expanded the event to one month.

Enjoy an afternoon of live guitar music from award-winning local musician Jimmy Moore and his wife Michelle. DeSoto National Memorial commemorates the history of famed conquistador Hernando de Soto, who landed in what is now Tampa Bay in 1539. The Visitor Center features displays of armor, weapons and various Spanish and Native American artifacts and screens the film, Hernando de Soto in America. Outdoor activities include nature trails, swimming, fishing, boating and picnicking. Park grounds open at dawn and the parking gate closes at 5 PM. Admission is free.

It's worth the drive for a fun-filled day trip to Clearwater's annual Hispanic Heritage Concert, one of the top Latin music events in the region. Headliners include Puerto Rican singer/songwriter Farruko and popular salsa artist Victor Manuelle. Local food vendors will be on hand selling Latin-inspired favorites. The event kicks off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 15 and tickets start at $25.
