'Tis the Season at 5 Festive San Antonio Holiday Events

We've scouted out some of the top events in the area, some traditional, some a bit out-of-the-box. Which ones grab your attention?

The Holidays at River Walk
Through December

What would the holidays be without a visit to see the River Walk decked out in all its seasonal glory? Festivities kick off with the Ford Holiday River Parade & Lighting Ceremony on November 27. Activities throughout the month of December include boat caroling, Fiesta de Las Luminarias and the holiday arts and crafts show. Take a leisurely stroll along the river and enjoy the soft glow of more than 1.8 million colorful lights illuminating the way.

Urban-15 Holiday Laser Show
Lila Cockrell Theater

Tuesday, December 8

This is the 11th year of this multimedia extravaganza combining choreographed laser beams, 3D animation and music. Traditional holiday songs are interspersed with experimental electronic music from composer George Cisneros. December 8 at 7 p.m. is the only time the show is open to the public, so make your plans now. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for kids 10 and under.

Comfort & Joy
Charline McCombs Empire Theater

Thursday, December 10

Popular adult contemporary artist Jim Brickman brings his 19th annual holiday tour to the intimate Charline McCombs Empire Theater. Spend the evening listening to an entertaining mix of holiday classics, new tunes and Brickman's top hits. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $32.50 - $52.50. 

Holiday in the Park
Six Flags Fiesta Texas
Through January 3

Nothing says "holidays" better than a goose-bump-inducing roller coaster ride! Six Flags ups the wow factor of the already incredible park experience by adding holiday-themed activities such as live shows, "caroling" trees and a cookie and cocoa workshop. Admission to the park is $69.99 for adults and $54.99 for kids under 48 inches tall.

Saturday, December 5

Tamales are a traditional seasonal treat in South Texas. Learn how to make your own with expert instruction from Comadre Gloria Solis. The two-hour class begins at 11 a.m., but why not plan time to tour the fascinating displays and exhibits? Museum admission is $10 and class fees are $25.
