After a long day crunching numbers or writing reports at work, indulging your creative side is great therapy. And what opens up your imagination better than a glass of wine or two? “Paint and sip” is the hot new entertainment trend that turns art class into happy hour.

A sense of adventure is more important than artistic talent, so don't worry about your skill level. Round up some friends and head out to one of these studios in San Antonio for a night of fun. You may even surprise yourself with the finished product!

Painting with a Twist
555 W. Bitters Road
210.495.7928

This New Orleans-based franchise began when friends Cathy Deano and Renee Maloney wanted to find a way to help the area recover from Hurricane Katrina. Today the women own four locations and have franchised 200 more to become the country's largest employer of aspiring artists.

One of the studio's instructors guides you through the step-by-step process of recreating the session's featured painting, which is the work of one of the company's talented artists. You are welcome to bring your choice of beverage, regular or alcoholic, along with your favorite snacks. Bring ice if needed but they have cups, napkins, plates and wine openers on hand for your use.

Class fees are $35 for a two-hour session and $45 for a three-hour session which includes all required supplies. There are Saturday morning classes for all ages so you can bring the kids along. Visit the website to view the current calendar and make a reservation.

The highlight of Whimsy Art Studio is their themed classes that allow you to put your individual spin on a particular subject. In Home School sessions you learn about a specific artist or art style and create your own interpretation. Animal lovers will enjoy "Paint Your Pet" where you provide a photo of your pet ahead of time that is pre-sketched onto a canvas for you to complete.

All classes are either two or three hours long. Fees are $45 and include all art supplies as well as cups, napkins, wine openers, ice and water. Special couples classes admit two for the discounted price of $65. Saturday morning classes are for kids age 7 and up while Saturday afternoon is open to those 12 and older. The current calendar and registration information are available on the website.

Both facilities are available for private parties if you're looking for a unique way to celebrate a birthday or other special occasion.

We would love to hear a first-hand report from the fun-loving residents of Springs Apartments. Tell us about your paint and sip session in the comments!
