San Antonio's impressive festival calendar includes these entertaining events taking place not far from our Springs San Antonio luxury apartment communities.

1. Friday Afternoon Club

Where else but San Antonio can you start the weekend with a super-sized happy hour? For 18 years, Gruene Hall has been holding their Friday Afternoon Club with special beer prices and prize giveaways. Local radio station KNBT 92.1 FM provides the tunes with a live broadcast, including a chat with celebrity guests like Steve Earle. It's TGIF from 4 to 7 p.m. each week through September. 

2. Balcones Heights Jazz Festival

The cool sounds of jazz just naturally go together with beautiful summer nights. Every July for more than 20 years, top local and international jazz performers have appeared at the Balcones Heights Jazz Festival thanks to David Munoz, host of "Sunday Morning Jazz" on Q101.9 FM who programs and emcees the event. Grab your blankets and lawn chairs and head out to the amphitheater each Friday in July. Admission is free and shows are held twice nightly at 7 and 9:30 p.m.

Indulge your creative side with a day of family fun at the McNay's Summer Block Party. Activities include craft projects, sidewalk chalk art and lawn games, and what's a block party without some tasty BBQ? Mark your calendar for Sunday, July 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free for all guests. 

4. Kendall County Fair

Put on your cowboy boots and celebrate Labor Day weekend at the Kendall County Fair. The 55 tree-studded acres of Herff Park make the perfect backdrop for a rodeo and livestock exhibit along with carnival rides, food and craft booths, and kids' activities. The fair kicks off on August 31 with the Queen's Pageant and runs through September 3. Admission is free on opening day. Visit the website for hours and ticket prices.

5. Fiesta Noche del Rio

San Antonio's proud and colorful Hispanic heritage is on display at Fiesta Noche del Rio, held annually since 1957 in the city's iconic La Villita Historic Arts Village. The shows feature an exciting lineup of musical and dance performances representing countries such as Mexico, Argentina and Spain. Tickets are $20 for adults and $8 for kids ages 6 to 14. Shows are held at 8:30 p.m. each Friday and Saturday through August 12.
