New to the Area? Check Out These Social Groups in New Orleans

One of the best ways to expand your social group and feel more connected locally is to join a social group or two. Here's a look at some popular ones in the area.

1. Happy's Running Club

Whether you're a competitive runner or you just enjoy jogging around the park every once in a while, Happy's Running Club provides a great opportunity to meet active people in the New Orleans area. They're based out of Happy's Irish Pub on Poydras Street in New Orleans, and they meet every Wednesday at 6 p.m. for group runs. You can go as slow or as fast as you like, chatting with others along the way. Dogs are welcome to join as long as they're kept on a leash and friendly to others.

2. New Orleans Singles Network

Are you a single adult looking for new friends and perhaps even someone to date? New Orleans Singles Network is a laid back group that hosts an array of events and activities throughout the area. From trivia nights to dance classes, they're sure to have something that appeals to you. Find a list of their upcoming events on their Meetup page, and come ready to mingle.

3. New Orleans Film Society

Do you marvel at the wonders of the silver screen or perhaps do some film making yourself? Consider joining the New Orleans Film Society, where you can meet others who are more than happy to discuss the plots, dialogue and lighting in both modern and classic cinema. As a member, you get free admission to NOFS presentations at the Contemporary Arts Center, free admission to Chalmette Movies, and many other perks.

4. Louisiana Hiking Club

If you like getting outside and discovering new places, the Louisiana Hiking Club will put you in touch with other hikers and outdoor adventurers in the area. They organize hikes all throughout the state, including many in the New Orleans area. You can attend an event as a visitor and decide whether you want to join as a full-time member.
