Top-French-Restaurants-New-Orleans.jpgNew Orleans was founded by the French in the 1700s, and one aspect of its French heritage lives on in the form of some truly enticing restaurants. Here are four top French restaurants to put on your must-visit list, whether you're seeking a fine dining experience or a casual weeknight meal.

1. Restaurant August
301 Tchoupitoulas St

Decorated with mahogany paneling and crystal chandeliers, Restaurant August offers a luxurious fine dining experience. The menu features an array of French specialties, from foie gras to shrimp etouffee. Many guests enjoy the pre fixe menu, which comes with five courses and can also be ordered with wine pairings. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made online through Open Table.

2. Trinity
1117 Decatur St

Trinity is the perfect destination for a nice weekday meal with friends. They offer many gluten-free and paleo-friendly options, and the chef aims to use local, familiar ingredients in unique ways. You'll discover French specialties like the Omelette a Pont L'Eveque, made with cow's milk cheese and potatoes, as well as frog leg tempura and duck liver pate.

Trinity has a bright, modern atmosphere, and dressy attire is recommended. They do accept reservations, but there's also the option of sitting at the beautiful marble bar.

3. Tartine
7217 Perrier St

Tartine is a casual restaurant offering more laid back French cuisine, such as quiche, tartine and soups. They are known for their brunch, which is served daily until 2 or 3 p.m. and a wide variety of quiche dishes, using flavorful, seasonal ingredients and fresh eggs.

Tartine has a lovely outdoor patio, and their dining room feels like it's set inside someone's home. The restaurant does not take reservations and is often busy on weekends, but the food is well worth the wait!

4. Lilette
3637 Magazine St

Lilette is a modern, yet cozy French restaurant that received mention in Bon Appétit, Travel + Leisure and a number of other publications. With an airy appeal and classy decor, the dining room will make you feel like you've crossed the ocean to France.

The menu at Lilette features dishes such as duck tortellini, escargot and roasted Muscovy duck breast. They also serve delicious craft cocktails, such as the Lilette Rouge with Prosecco and a muddled lime and orange. Reservations are recommended and classy dress is preferred.
