Food-Blogs-DM.jpgWhere did we find our foodie inspiration in the days before food blogs? Visually appealing and inspiring, food blogs offer great ideas, readable prose, and excellent photography. If you need a little food inspiration, or are looking for a new restaurant to try near your Des Moines apartment home, explore one the following five blogs:

1. DM Foodster

Written by locals Nick Lucs and Tom Hardinge, DM Foodster focuses on local breweries and restaurants. It's a great blog to visit when you want to go out on the town and need some ideas on where to go. This blog isn't all serious—if you've ever searched for a Buddy the Elf Breakfast recipe, look no further.

2. The Mediterranean Dish

Most people don't think of Mediterranean food when they think of Des Moines, but this food blog proves that the area is home to all kinds delicious cuisines. Written by Suzy Karadsheh, a native of Port Said, Egypt, this food blog is fairly new but already has an impressive collection of entree, vegetarian, dessert, and salad recipes.

3. Food and Swine

Written by a self-proclaimed Iowa farm girl, Food and Swine is a food blog with surprising depth. Not only does the author contribute baking and entree recipes, but she also writes about family, farming, and raising pigs. Check this blog for regular updates and new recipes, and be sure to follow @FoodSwineIowa on Twitter.

4. IowaGirlEats

This local food blog offers gluten-free recipes, 30-minute meals, light and healthy cooking, and crockpot meals. Cristen Clark started her food blog in 2008, and several years later was diagnosed with celiac. As she learned how to cook without gluten, she decided to share her findings with her blog audience, and has even authored the eBook Gluten-Free for Beginners.

5. Des Loines

This blog is heaven for people who love breaded pork tenderloin. There are food reviews about breaded tenderloin, recipes for breaded tenderloin, as well as photos of the succulent fillet. In fact, this is probably the largest breaded pork tenderloin blog on the Internet, and it's locally focused on Des Moines!
