Margaritas-DM.jpgNothing gets the smiles and laughter going like a round of great margaritas. If you and your friends are looking for a local place to enjoy some margaritas with a side of Mexican food, there's no shortage of options in Des Moines. Here are five of our favorite spots not far from Springs at Waukee and Springs at Jordan Creek:

1. El Aguila Real Mexican Restaurant
3520 Beaver Ave, Ste E

The jumbo margaritas at El Aguila are so big you may not be able to order a second one. They're shaken with the best ingredients and served on the rocks. If you're with a large group, you can order by the pitcher. El Aguila is also known for their guacamole and the Parradilla Mexicana, a generous portion of chorizo, grilled chicken, beef and pork with all of the fixings. The atmosphere is casual, and there's an outdoor patio where you can enjoy the nice weather while it lasts.

2. Tequila Restaurante & Cantina
2824 Easton Blvd

The margaritas at Tequila Restaurante & Cantina are typically on the sweet side, and they're affordably priced at $3. Pair your drink with an order of the house special tacos and you're bound to have a great night. This small, family-owned restaurant has a welcoming, dive-like atmosphere.

3. Los Laureles
1518 E Grand Ave

Los Laureles’ house special margaritas are incredibly delicious and authentic and they're made to be strong. Everything here is made in-house, but the restaurant’s real calling card is the chorizo; it's spicy, tender, and full of nuanced flavors. Order the chorizo tacos with a side of rice and beans and don't forget to slather on the famous Los Laurels green sauce, their own take on salsa verde. Los Laureles is welcoming and casual with a full bar and patio seating.

4. La Hacienda
3121 Ingersoll Ave

If you prefer your margaritas sweet and fruity, this just might become your go-to spot. La Hacienda’s strawberry 'ritas are to die for, and they're always adding new flavors to the menu. The queso dip is a superb accompaniment to your margaritas, and their chimichangas are always a big hit.

5. Pueblo Viejo
3841 E 14th St

Blended margaritas are the favorite here, but they make delicious 'ritas on the rocks, too. The pollo asada is very flavorful, and the three-meat fajitas will leave you feeling stuffed. Pueblo Viejo may be a good choice if you're planning a date night as it has a quieter, more intimate atmosphere.
