4 Great Ways to Celebrate Armed Forces Day Around Cincinnati

May 16, 2017

Celebrate-Armed-Forces-Day-Cincinnati.jpgThe third Saturday in May is reserved for Armed Forces Day, and this year's celebration will take place on Saturday, May 20. Armed Forces Day pays tribute to the men and women who have put their lives on hold to serve their country.

Here are several ways that residents of Springs at West Chester and Springs at Liberty Township can show their respect and support for men and women on Armed Forces Day:

1. Go to the FC Cincinnati Professional Soccer Game
Saturday, May 20 at 7 p.m.
Nippert Stadium, 2700 Bearcat Way, Cincinnati

Attending a soccer match has become one of the most exciting things to do in Cincinnati, and it's also a great family-friendly event. In honor of Armed Forces Day, members of the military will receive complimentary admission to FC Cincinnati game with a military ID. Free tickets can be retrieved through the Armed Forces Tickets Association in Cincinnati, a non-profit organization created to provide free or deeply discounted tickets to members of the Armed Forces.

2. Send a Care Package to Overseas Military Personnel

A great way to honor the men and women who fight for our country is to send a care package to deployed troops worldwide. Sending packages will improve the morale and well-being of the recipients and remind them that their service to our country is valued. Putting together a care package is also a meaningful way to teach young children what Armed Forces Day is all about.

Support Our Troops is a non-profit organization that will help you determine items to include in your care package and how to get your package to our troops overseas.

3. Fly Your American Flag

When you're living in an apartment home, you may not always have access to a flagpole to hang your American flag. Some creative solutions include framing an American flag to display in your apartment home, using an oversized American flag as a backdrop for your wall, or making an American flag tart dessert to enjoy on Armed Forces Day. The leasing offices at our Springs at West Chester and Springs at Liberty Township luxury apartment communities can offer some additional ways to display your American flag.

4. Run the Armed Forces Day 5K Race
Sunday, May 28 at 8:30 a.m.
Crescent Springs Community Park, 800 Buttermilk Pike, Crescent Springs, KY

Show your appreciation for the Armed Forces by walking or running this patriotic 5K through the scenic Crescent Springs Community Park. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Kenton County Veterans Memorial. Be sure to stick around after the race to attend the ASA "Top Gun" Adopt-a-Unit Breakfast, which is an annual fundraiser for the adopted soldiers of the 101st Airborne.
