Outdoor Activities to Add to Your Summer Bucket List in Chicagoland

June 05, 2017

Outdoor-Activities-Summer-Chicagoland.jpgThe warmer summer weather is finally here, making this the perfect time of year to enjoy the outdoors in Chicagoland. While an obvious summer destination for our Springs at Orchard Road and Springs at Weber Road residents is the on-site resort-style pool, it's also fun to explore your community's surroundings.

Here are four outdoor activities around North Aurora and Romeoville that you'll want to include on your bucket list this summer:

1. Spend a Day at the Waterpark at Splash Country
195 S Barnes Rd, Aurora
630.906.7981

Splash Country features the second largest lazy river in the state, spanning 1,100 feet in length and winding through sprayers, jets and rapids. If you're looking for a thrill, the park offers two water slides to satisfy this craving. An enclosed kid-friendly area includes several interactive features such as a waterfall and spray guns to keep your kids entertained. The park also offers a zero-entry pool with several lanes for swimming.

2. Take In a Free Concert at the Park
Montgomery Park, 310 N River St, Montgomery
630.897.0516

The Fox Valley Park District will be putting on a free summer concert series beginning Thursday, June 8 and continuing every Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. in June and July. Guests are encouraged to pack a picnic and bring lawn chairs to enjoy a free summer concert under the stars. The featured bands will cover various genres of music, from the sounds of the 90s to covers of today's best country music.

3. Let the Kids Burn Off Some Energy at Boucher Prairie Park
1649 Richfield Tr, Romeoville

If you want to encourage your kids to be more active and enjoy the outdoors, Boucher Prairie Park offers a great playground to keep your little ones busy. Take them to explore the nature trail and then cool off at the on-site splash pad.

4. Hike the Centennial Trail
Romeoville Rd, Romeoville

The Centennial Trail is 11 miles long and spans over 386 acres, making it a great trail for both hiking and biking. The trail provides some welcomed shade from the summer sun, and the wildlife viewing makes for a great adventure. One of the best places to access the trail is from the Isle a la Cache Nature Preserve off Romeoville Road, which is an added convenience for Springs at Weber Road residents.
